It is disappointing and annoying to forget things often. It is not only the old people who have been complaining of this, but the young crowd has been affected too. As per various studies and researches, it has been inferred that a better memory can have a positive impact on both your personal and professional life.

Science may become your savior as it can provide an answer on how to improve your memory by suggesting some noteworthy tips to help you fix this problem.

Meditate
What is a memory? It is a result of the activities done by the cells of the brain. When an incident happens, the brain sends the signals in proportion to the flow of the events, and the connection between the neurons happens.

To strengthen this memory, it is important to meditate regularly. During meditation, your brain will stop processing the information already stored in your memory and will also cease to build a new memory. Since the brain will not work actively during meditation, it will give a break to the brain cells to relax for some time. This, in turn, helps the person’s ability to remember more and have a better memory.

Have enough sleep
This is yet another problem of today. Due to stress, lifestyle, and long working hours, people compromise their sleep. It is highly recommended by the doctors and experts that a person must sleep for at least 8 hours every day. If you do not sleep for 8 hours and settle for just 4 hours or so, it causes impaired memory according to a 2015 study in the journal SLEEP.

Sleep is important for memory creation and consolidation, according to a 2006 study in Neuroscientist. You would have noticed that even after a short nap, you feel fresh and your memory performs better.

Exercise
Exercising is as important as sleeping enough. There have been different experiments done on both humans and animals that have proven that a regular exercise has significantly improved the memory.

The study has also proven that the elderly people who have exercised regularly, tend to remember more and have slowed down their deteriorating memory. We do not mean that you need to work out intensively. Just a regular walk will solve the purpose.

As per a research, chewing gum is a good exercise. It increases the activity in the hippocampus, which helps to have a better memory. It also increases the oxygen flow to the brain and the brain is able to build a stronger connection, which in turn aids concentration and attentiveness.

Watch your food
The food we eat also impacts our memory. For example, we can include a cup of coffee in our daily diet, as a 2014 study in Nature says that caffeine can help improve memory. Though there is no research which can prove this. You must have a well-balanced diet which is high in fiber.

A 2011 study done in the University of Oxford, the students who did not eat fatty food and ate a fibrous and low-carb balanced diet, performed better in exams. Eating berries, which are full of nutrients and vitamins and are anyway good for health, also feature in the list of top foods to have for a better memory.

As per a study conducted in the University of Reading and the Peninsula Medical School, it was found that including blueberries (high in flavonoids) in your diet for three months can lead to better spatial working memory. Also, avoid too much alcohol and see the change.
